 On Social Security (Con't.)

        I will not obtain a Social Security number for my children because the Bible warns of a prevailing spirit of antichrist that will culminate in history with the appearance of "The Man of Sin," also known as "The Antichrist." He will cause "...that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name" (II Thessalonians 2:3-12; Revelation 13:11-18). I believe that if the Social Security number is not to become the "Mark of the Beast," it most certainly is the presager of it. A second reason I will not obtain a SSN for my children is that I am not a Socialist.

     Should Christians who share these convictions be punished for filing a tax return in 1989? So be it; but just how close is the kingdom of Antichrist? Does this mean that children who do not have a Social Security number will be denied an education? Will they be refused drivers licenses? hunting and fishing licenses? Will they be denied the right to obtain a job? Will they be denied entrance into a hospital? Are they to be denied the right to purchase groceries?

     Hospitals are aspiring to tattoo a Social Security number on the foot of every newborn! And, because of the number of children that turn up missing each year, it has been proposed that dentists could place a Social Security number on a child's tooth using indelible ink! Not long ago, ...Syndicated newspaper columnist Walter Williams wrote, "Hitler's maniacal racism was not as successful as he would have liked because the state machinery was not without its defects. Jews changed their names and otherwise disappeared. But, if Hitler had an agency like our Internal Revenue Service with its massive detailed information on all of us, Jewish extermination might have been complete."

     ...Now, the question that must be answered is whether the Social Security law is innately evil. Since it is predicated upon socialism, is socialism inherently evil?

     ...Since the beginning of the Social Security program, this country has learned to accept aborticide (abortion being the natural expulsion of a pre-mature child), and now the push is for euthanasia, just as was done in Germany in the 1920's. "All they that hate me," says the Lord, "love death" (Proverbs 8:36).

     Some argue that Scripture says "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's," but the difference between the government of the United States and a dictatorship like that under Caesar is that this country professes all taxation is voluntary and not confiscatory taxation. Never before has there been a government number issued to citizens of this country, and, not until the socialist trends in Europe did any European country number its citizens. Socialism is the economics of humanism, and by its very nature is godless. The fact that for the first time ever we are seeing governments both here and abroad issuing numbers to their citizens ought to make us sit up and take notice despite what eschatology we profess.

     Three years ago, we took a boy into our home that the state was about to place in a foster home. Since they would not have cared whether he was placed in a godly environment, and as he was faithful in church, and very mannerly, we took him in. At the time I told the state we wanted no support from tax payers (neither did we want their ability to snoop into our family affairs).

     About three months passed and we received a call from the Social Security office. They had a sizeable check they wanted to give us, nearly $5000. I refused it. When they partially recovered from their shock, I told them the reason I refused it was because I was not a socialist. I do not believe it is the job of the American taxpayer to care for me or for my family.

    Within two years of entering the ministry, I signed a waiver of Social Security. As a minister I had the right to be exempt because ministers raised a raucous against the system in those early days. But everyone should have that right. As the Social Security system is anti-God, so it is anti-Family. Since my wife teaches in a Christian school, she must pay the Social Security tax. But my wife is not a "Ms," she is my wife, and since I am the head of my home, and I have a waiver, she also should be exempt.

     People who receive the "Mark of the Beast" will seal their damnation (Revelation 14:9-11; 19:20). Obviously, at this hour the Social Security number is not the Mark, but can we be sure it will not become such by this time next year? When is the better and easier time to get out of the system? Should we sign up for it now for the sake of expedience?

     You mention that the mark of the Beast will be printed on people. Perhaps unbeknown to you it is already under consideration. Ominous, no?

       ...D., consider how that in II Thessalonians 2:3-12, and in Revelation 13:11-18 Scripture tells us the day is coming when one who is "The Man of Sin" or "The Antichrist" will forbid people to buy or sell unless they receive his name or the number of his name. Although people for centuries have been trying to label wicked men as the Antichrist, that does not preclude his reality. Never before have we seen the issuing of a number to carry on all business transactions. While ultimately whoever receives the number of the Beast will seal his damnation, yet why is it unreasonable to believe the Social Security number is at least the presager of it? Yet, this is only a recent issue.

       ...Catherine and I are wrestling whether to go along with the government's socialistic policies. Neither of us has been able to settle what amounts to us to be some serious questions. For instance, the card you and I carry says it is "for Social Security and tax purposes only, not for identification." It is amazing to me that a professed Jew has such little trepidation for a national numbering of its citizens, especially in light of what happened in World War II. ...

       Welfarism is anti-God: it teaches people to look to the government, and not to God in time of need. Therefore, it is the essence of immorality. Do I not become guilty of the evils of the system by agreeing to become a part of the system? If, as the government contends, it is built upon voluntarism, do I have to volunteer? ...Are we supposed to be dumb, driven cattle? Free men are not equal, and equal men are not free.

    I am seeking to do right. God is a God of righteousness. ...If work is a divine command, who are men to forbid it unless it be by their consent?
