ON SOCIALISM
Dear P. K.
October 16, 1991
Socialism is not simply an
alternative to a free market economy: it is inherent evil that
is perpetuated by the spirit of covetousness. It is owing to his
depravity that man lusts for the things that belong to others.
Socialism is the economics of deceit.
While it offers "free," and "easy" money, it has no wealth of
its own. It must seize the fruit of the toil and dangers endured
by others in order to have something to give away. Socialism is,
therefore, self-destructive because it feeds upon itself.
Citizens in a socialist society find themselves no longer
responsible to pay their own way. It becomes the responsibility
of everyone else to see that they are housed, fed, educated and
doctored, albeit they are deadbeats. Since socialism reduces
everyone to equality, no one is allowed to excel.
Socialism attempts to protect
businesses from failure, but no venture is secure in a free
market. There can be no success where there is no possibility of
failure. For instance, protection of the medical industry has
caused health care costs to rise oppressively, and, if medical
care is not to be left to price itself into extinction, the
Federal government will have to take control, because under
socialism, all businesses dependent upon the economy will
eventually be brought to ruin.
It is robbery to prey upon the
possessions of others; and, it is to be a party to such robbery
if we accept the property of others who have been coerced into
giving it. It does not matter whether we accept it in the form
of an education grant, low-income housing, a farm subsidy, food
stamps, Social Security, or flood relief. People who will not
assume the responsibility to pay their own way, but are rather
willing government seize it from their neighbors—such people
choose the way of oppression and death.
Americans will never again be able
to control their lives until they are willing to say "No!" to
Socialism by refusing government money.
ON SOCIAL SECURITY
Dear D. B.
December 25, 1990
...Several years ago,
ministers of the Gospel protested the Social Security number
because it reminded them what the Apostle John wrote in
Revelation, how that the day would come when the Antichrist
would cause people to receive his mark or his number, and that
people without it would not be able to buy or sell. They saw the
Social Security number as a forerunner to the Mark of the Beast.
The Federal government, therefore, compromised, and allowed
ministers to sign Form 4361, and to opt out of the system. I
signed it because even in my youth I did not believe it was the
duty of government to care for me.
With the passing of time, it has
become increasingly difficult to turn on utilities, make
purchases, go to school, or to the hospital, etc. without first
giving our Social Security number even though our Social
Security card reads, "For Social Security and Tax Purposes—Not
For Identification." Consequently, I have not obtained Social
Security numbers for my children.
I do not have all the answers. I
live one day at a time trying to honor the Lord as I understand.
Now, I have no intention of severing friendship or fellowship
with you if you do not stand with me on this issue, and I trust
your heart is able to find a place for me, even if you do not
agree with me. No man ought to be excommunicated who is desirous
of doing that which is right, and who is striving to do right as
he understands it.
Dear P. K.
August 30, 1988
The Social Security card I carry in
my pocket reads, "For Social Security and Tax Purposes—Not For
Identification." This is the contract I made with the United
States government when I was only 16 years of age.
Now, if I go to obtain a driver's
license, or a hunting and fishing license I am asked for my
Social Security number. If I open a bank account, or attempt to
buy groceries; if I seek admission into a hospital, or into a
college; if I apply for electrical, gas, telephone or water
service—they want my Social Security number.
The Social Security number has
become a national identification number. If I attempt to
purchase a bus ticket, or place an ad with a local advertising
agency, they want my "number." And, beginning this year, if I
withdraw $3000 from my bank account, purchase real estate, or
apply for a passport, I am "required" to give my Social Security
number.
In a letter to parents of all
Effingham County (Ga.) public school children, Superintendent of
Schools J. Michael Moore wrote, "Beginning with the 1987 school
year, every child enrolled in Effingham County Public Schools
must have a Social Security number." I have been denied the
right to check out audio-visual equipment from the
Augusta-Richmond County Public Library because I would not give
them my Social Security number. They have since changed their
policy.
In the booklet, "Your Federal
Income Tax" available at your local office of the
Internal Revenue Service, on page 25 of Chapter Four
(Publication 17, Revised November 1986) you can read, "If you
claim a dependent who is at least 5 years old by the end of a
taxable year, you must list the dependent's Social Security
number (SSN) on your Form 1040 or Form 1040A for 1987 and
subsequent taxable years. If you do not list the dependent's SSN
when required or if you list an incorrect SSN, you may be
subject to a $5 penalty."
