The God Who Is

THE "GOD OF FORCES"

In Daniel chapter 11, beginning in verse 36, we read a strange prophecy: "And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

"Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honor the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things" (verses 36-38).

There is a time yet to come when he who sits on the throne shall do according to his own will. He shall set up himself above every god, and shall blaspheme the God of gods. Yet, for a time God will let him prosper that he may drink the last drop of His wrath. This man will serve a new god—a god unknown to his fathers, but who is identified as "the God of forces." The prophecy sounds like him whom we call "Antichrist."

On at least 3 different occasions I have heard Carl Sagan being interviewed. He is the "high priest" of evolution in our society. On each occasion, someone has asked him whether or not he believed in God. Each time he answered that he believed God is the sum of all forces: of magnetism, electricity, and gravity." This is the "God of forces;" and to worship him is to worship the creation instead of the Creator.

Reader, note that the teachings of Carl Sagan, and the philosophy of such magazines as Parade, and The National Geographic are diametrically opposed to the teaching of the Bible. At the heart of men's arguments for evolution is their denial of the authority of God's Word.

Theories Of Evolution

There have been several theories of evolution proposed to explain the origin of the heavens and of the earth, including the origin of plants and animals, and of man. Consider first those theories advanced to explain the origin of the heavens and of the earth.

Evolutionary Theories of The Origin of Earth

THE COLLISION OR PLANETESSIMAL THEORY

In the 1700's, a Frenchman named George LeClerc conceived a theory he called "The Collision Theory," or "The Planetessimal Theory." LeClerc taught that the sun and another star collided with the result that the earth and two planets were formed as large globs of hot matter.

Toward the middle of the 20th century, Sir James Jeans, Thomas Chamberlin and Forest Moulton revised the Collision Theory and proposed "The Tidal Theory."

THE TIDAL THEORY

James, Chamberlin and Moulton taught that tides were raised on the surface of the sun by a passing star. According to them the star did not collide with the sun, but only passed close by. These tides detached as hot bolts of matter which eventually cooled and condensed into planets.

The Tidal Theory has since fallen into disrepute.

THE NEBULAR OR CLOUD THEORY

In the 19th century, Immanuel Kant, a German, and Pierre Laplace, a Frenchman, conceived "The Nebular Theory," also known as "The Cloud Theory." Kant and Laplace taught that clouds of hot gas and dust called "nebulaes," cooled, then shrank; and as they shrank, they began to revolve faster and faster until matter broke away from the outer edges. James Maxwell mathematically refuted the theory. He showed that it was impossible for the gravitational force to be sufficiently strong to condense the matter on the outer edges of the cloud.

THE DUST CLOUD THEORY

In the middle of this century, another theory was advanced. It became known as "The Dust Cloud Theory," and was a modification of the "Nebular" or "Cloud Theory." In 1943, Karl Weizacker, a German, announced his theory that the sun condensed. As it did so, the outer portions of the sun did not condense. Instead, they became larger and larger thus forming the planets. He believed the earth was originally hot, but that it cooled. He drew the conclusion that the earth is going to enter an ice age.

Gerald Kuiper, a student of Weizacker, modified his teacher's theory. According to Kuiper, a dust cloud contracted and condensed thus forming the sun and the planets. As the sun further condensed, it became hot and warmed the earth. He believed the earth was first cold, and has since experienced a global warming.
