Letters ON THE GAP THEORY Dear D. O. February 28, 1989 ...Incidentally, the "Canaanites" are not descended from "Cain"; and while I still have your attention, regarding the flood in the days of Noah that it was universal and overspread the earth, the Bible says the mountains rose, and the valleys sank (See: Psalm 104:8). But those who believe in the superiority of the white "race" commonly deny the flood was universal, and allow for the "Gap Theory" that teaches the earth "became" without form and void (Genesis 1:2). The Theory allows a gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 to admit millions of years, and thus accommodate the atheistic theory of evolution. The Bible says "and the earth WAS without form and void". Note, it is serious error for Dr. C. I. Scofield to attempt to "correct" the Bible. He did so in order to allow for the scientifically popular theory of evolution. The Hebrew word "tohu" means "without form," and means the face of the earth was not sculptured. The word "bohu" means "empty" or "void". The Septuagint translated the words as "unsightly, unfinished," and therefore, showed that the earth was not perfect, because it was not complete. The Geneva Bible of 1560 translated the verse, "The earth was without form and void." And, Calvin translated the words as "shapeless," "empty". Do the Scriptures give any credence to these translations? The psalmist declares, "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God" (Psalm 90:2). In Psalm 104, we read, "Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. They go up by the mountains, they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them" (vs. 6-8). In other words, the mountains rose, and the valleys sank. In Genesis 10:25, we read of "Peleg" who was so-named because "in his days was the earth divided." It was then that the earth was divided into continents, and with them, the animals and birds were divided in the earth. The Gap Theory contradicts the Fourth Commandment which says, "For in 6 days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is ..." (Exodus 20:11). Second, we are told that death is the result of Adam's sin (I Corinthians 15:21): "By man came death". See also, Romans 8:20-22; 5:12; and note that "The first man Adam was made a living soul". Adam was the first man. There was no death before him. And, third, there is no Scripture that plainly teaches that Satan was associated with the earth before the creation of man. Some attempt to justify the Gap Theory by pointing out in Genesis 1:28, "God blessed them, and God said unto them, `Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth....'" They translate the word "replenish" as "refill" the earth, and thus allow for a pre-Adamite race. But the dictionary at hand defines the old English word "replenish" to mean "to supply what is lacking." There were no creatures in the earth except for Adam and Eve, and the animals God had created. The word also means, "to finish," or "complete." The Hebrew translates the word "replenish" as "fill;" so does the Greek. The Geneva Bible translates it as "fill the earth;" while the New American Standard Bible translates it "fill" ... ARE BLACK PEOPLE GENETICALLY INFERIOR TO WHITE PEOPLE? Dear C. S. August 30, 1994 ...Burnham well documents the moral degeneracy in black societies, both in America, as well as in all other countries (Stanley Burnham, America's Bimodal Crisis: Black Intelligence In White Society). But, his explanation for it is fanciful: he links it to genetics. I agree with his findings, but not with his reasons. Black societies have refused to be governed by the laws of God. In America, blacks have accepted a form of Christianity, but without much serious desire to be conformed to the image of Christ. There is much splash and roar, but very little obedience. The problem is not in the area of genetics, but in the area of obedience to the will of God. It is no different in the white community. American colleges have been "dumbing down" their tests every 2-3 years for the past 30 years. The problem is not with genes, but with disobedience: still, our society becomes more rebellious to God. In brief, sin makes people stupid. It robs them of their identity and purpose; so, who cares about academic achievement when mother runs the home, and Dad has split? Is the tyranny and barbarism of African cannibals any worse than that of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, or Napoleon? Witness the present day "soul-less" Soviet Union, and the people who have been enslaved there for 70 years. Is their slavery any less brutal than that which characterized the African slave trade? I believe as white society casts off the God of their Fathers, and rejects Christian principles, that white society will follow in the same path as black societies. But, if a black or a white society was to repent, remarkable changes would occur at every level of their society. "My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, ..." (Hosea 4:12). And, again, "I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: ..." (Zephaniah 1:17). The problems of immorality exist, as do the attending consequences of welfare, crime, etc. But the cause lies not in biology, and therefore, the answer cannot lie in biology as in abortion and sterilization. This is convoluted reasoning ...and sounds amazingly similar to the bleatings of Germany not many years ago. It is a position that Almighty God fought against then, and will do so again.
