The IRS has "Done it again!"

"All Scripture is Given by Inspiration of God!"

Testimony of Rev. Dabney Carr Harrison

THE IRS HAS "DONE IT AGAIN!"

Robert J. Billings

The IRS, in their typical, arrogant, bureaucratic way, has now decided to promulgate their "Proposed Revenue Procedures" without a Congressional hearing. Their target date for putting these regulations in force is the end of February. In a highly secretive move, without telling any of us in the Christian school movement, they tailed in a few representative groups and began rewriting the proposal.

One of these groups is the Council for American Private Education (CAPE). This group claims to speak for 90% of the Christian schools! They receive some of their funds from HEW. They are cooperating with the IRS on our behalf But they do not speak for us!! To tell the IRS that they speak for 90% of the private schools is a boldfaced lie! Other groups have also folded to the pressures of the IRS, i.e. the Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church, the Hebrew Day School and the Seventh Day Adventist Schools. I understand that the Catholic schools are waiting for the conclusion of this "bargain" between the IRS and the above named groups to negotiate a surrender of their own.

When asked why they by-passed our Christian schools, IRS replied that we offered nothing of substantive value in re-writing the proposal. Of course not! We don’t want them re-written; we want them dropped!

Are we up to another battle with this branch of bureaucracy? The answer is up to each one of us. Here is our plan of action:

1. Write immediately to your Congressman, urging him to contact Representative Sam Gibbons (D. Florida), requesting Congressman Gibbons’ Subcommittee on Oversight to hold hearings. This must be done NOW. Call your friends and neighbors, the school and church families, the people down the street, and let’s flood Washington with 500,000 letters. If they thought that they had received a lot of letters when we mailed 126,000 in September-October, let’s deluge them with mail, phone calls, mailgrams and personal visits. Every time your Member is back in the district, a group of you get together and pay him a visit. Don’t stop writing (every week if necessary) until we hear that the hearings will be held.

2. Urge your Congressman to fully support any legislation that will be introduced that will make this "Proposal" null and void. Some will be introduced in a few days, call our office, or write, for the correct numbers of the bills. (301-839-6986)

3. Join with my family in a national day of fasting and prayer on Friday, February 23rd. Perhaps your entire student body or church family will pray for victory. The gates of Hell will tremble if we "fast and pray the whole day" on February 23rd.

In your letters to your Congressman (and write him each week), let him know that the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) does not speak for your school or for thousands of other Christian schools across America. Insist that he send an answer back to you as to his position. Ask if he has contacted Sam Gibbons yet? We must act now. Our very religious freedoms are at stake. Will we allow a federal bureaucracy this power to destroy our schools? Not without a fight! Come on, Christians, let’s show the IRS that we are as tough as they are and that we will not quit!

 One Sweetly Solemn Thought

Comes to Me O’er and O’er;

I’m Nearer Home today

Than I’ve Ever been before.

For even now my feet

May stand upon its brink;

I may be nearer home,

Nearer than now I think.

THE ANGELUS IS NOT FOR SALE! Through the years we have resisted the pressures to charge a subscription rate. We do not ever intend to fix a fee to it. The cost, however, furnishes a very real strain upon us at this time. Printing costs us $768a year and the U.S. Postal Service charges us $600 per annum. With office supplies such as address labels, envelopes for foreign mailing, etc. the cost conservatively runs in the neighborhood of $1500 a year.

Twice a month, 1000 subscribers receive The Angelus. Of these about 550 are pastors and professors. We presently have the opportunity of tripling our circulation. This, however would triple our expenses.

You can help. Some of our friends could send us a check for $5; others could send one for $3. Perhaps you could send a $10 check.

If you have profited from reading The Angelus, here is an opportunity to allow someone else the same benefit.

"ALL SCRIPTURE IS GIVEN BY INSPIRATION OF GOD."

-II Timothy 3:16-

Since ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration OF GOD, then let --

1. Antinomians, who lay aside the Old Testament Law as if it were out of date, and who turn in disgust from the commandments of God our Saviour --BEWARE!

2. Rationalists, who explain away what they do not like by declaring the "Instructions in Righteousness" embedded in the Scriptures were only for the days of Peter and Paul -- BEWARE!

3. Emotionalists, who pretend to have the baptism of the Holy Spirit but who lay aside the clear injunctions and explicit teachings of God’s Word -- BEWARE!

4. Abusers of the Word of the Eternal God, who deceitfully interpret and misapply it-- BEWARE!

Abusers of this Word eternally settled in Heaven, who though ignorantly handle its contents nevertheless, do so with indifference --BEWARE!

5. Mormons and others like them, who add to this already completed volume to further their own deceitful ends --BEWARE!

6. Dispensationalists, who take a pen knife and excise vast portions of God’s Word such as the Sermon on the Mount, and Matthew chapters 24,25 declaring them not intended for Gentiles --BEWARE!

7. Those who Slight God’s Word living for weeks and months at a time without reading the volume God has authored --BEWARE!

FEBRUARY

16, 1862 --Tennessee. It is Sunday, and at Fort Donelson, Rev. Dabney Carr Harrison is mortally wounded. He has led his company for 7 hours amid a storm of bullets. Waving his sword he has shouted to his men, "Come on." Four bullets have exited has hat, only one grazing his brow; but another has struck above his heart and exited his body. His men still not knowing it, he cheered them on. But yet a sixth bullet slammed through his right lung. Carried from the field, he calls for one of his manuscript books, and taking pencil in hand he writes this date confessing, "I die content and happy, trusting in the merits of my Saviour, Jesus, committing my wife and children to their Father and mine." -Dabney Carr Harrison
