TO ONE WHO BELIEVES THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY IS PAST

Dear D. W.                                                                                                February 16, 1988

The fact that many early heresies have been "resurrected" in recent years is one reason I am convinced we are living in the end times. D., you may not be aware of it, but even before the closing of the canon of Scripture, there were some who taught the resurrection of the body was past, the Lord had come, and the result was that it overthrew the faith of some (II Timothy 2:17,18).

Some people want to parade themselves as being teachers, who, in order to accomplish this, detract from the truth of God, and invent some cunning fable. Remember Paul's admonition to the Ephesians was that the Church had been established "that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive ..." (4:14).

The theme here, is that God has instituted His Church "for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ ..." (vs. 12). To this Church, God has called "some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers" (vs. 11). D., you will be forever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of truth until you submit yourself to the discipline of a Bible-preaching church, and live in obedience to the will of God.

D., you err on Zechariah 14:4: "the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south." This shall be when "his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives." Ask any visitor to that country if there exists such a valley, or such a cleft in the mount of Olives. That ought to settle the question.

It is pure fancy to imagine that the Lord returned in 70 A.D., and that all has come to pass, heaven has arrived—what, are you blind? Consider Isaiah 25:8. Here, the prophet declares, "He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; and the rebuke of His people shall He take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it."

D., when did this occur? 70 A.D.? Are you so easily led that you can be made to believe the rebuke of Israel has been taken off all the earth?

D., you have itching ears. You want to hear some new thing. You desire to be a teacher but have never been taught. ...You are listening to heterodoxy instead of following the Word of God. Instead, you go to the Bible only to substantiate what you have heard. This is to use the Bible as a secondary, instead of the primary source; and it is an insult to Almighty God. Let me hear from you.

OF REINCARNATION

Dear G. M.                                                                                                November 13, 1990

I was disappointed that you would have no qualms about airing the 3-part series dealing with the error of reincarnation

Reincarnation is a heathen doctrine that came out of Babylon. To dispel the teaching, the Word of God clearly states, "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).

Instead of promoting error by advertising it, you should caution viewers to beware of "giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils" (I Timothy 4:1).

OF PEOPLE WHO CLAIM TO HAVE LIVED IN A PREVIOUS TIME

Dear G. M.                                                                                                November 13, 1990

Some people claim to have lived in a previous time. I believe there are only two explanations of this phenomena. One, there are some people who are frauds; and two, there are some people who are possessed by demons, or fallen angels. I do not believe there is any other explanation.

ON THE NATURE OF FAITH

Dear M. K.                                                                                                          June 29, 1988

...Faith, both our creed, and our convictions of that creed, is not subject to reason. For instance, the statement of Isaiah that "with his stripes we are healed" (53:5) is a very unreasonable statement, yet, although it is contrary to reason, everyone whose heart the Lord has opened knows it is so.

It is contrary to reason that God can be "just and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus" (Romans 3:6). Faith is not reasonable. Where reason reigns, faith is made useless. So, Abraham "against hope, believed in hope" (Romans 4:18). When his body was generatively dead, as was Sarah's womb, yet, he believed that what God had promised, He was able to perform, and, by this faith, Abraham became "the father of all them that believe" (11).
