"SINNERS, TURN; WHY WILL YE DIE?"
Text: Ezekiel 33:11

May 16, 1855--Dwight Lyman Moody is awakened to his need of salvation. His state, he sees, is that of a sinner. Sin seems hateful, and holiness is desirable to him. He feels dependent, upon Christ for his forgiveness. He loves the Scriptures and to pray. He is not ashamed to be known as a Christian. He is eighteen years of age.
May 21, 1738--Charles Wesley is converted through reading a portion of Martin Luther’s Commentary on Galatians.
May 21, 1832--James Hudson Taylor is born to Mr. and Mrs. James Taylor at Barnsby, Yorkshire, England.
May 22, 1498--Jerome Savonarola quietly receives his sentence of death.
May 23, 1738--Two days following his conversion, Charles Wesley pens his famous hymn,
"And can it be, that I should gain
An interest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died He for me who caused his pain,
For me, to Him, to death pursued"--
Years will pass, and when he comes to die, he will quote,
"Bold I approach the eternal throne
And claim the cross through Christ My own."
May 24, 1738--Three days after the conversion of Charles, his brother John Wesley is converted in a meeting on Aldersgate Street. He has heard a portion of the introduction to Martin Luther’s Commentary on Romans.
He testifies the same moment to his newly found faith in Christ.
Coming to his brother Charles, he cries, "I believe!" and both sing the newly written hymn,
"And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Saviour’s blood?"
After prayer, they part.
May 26, 1521--Martin Luther is declared an outlaw by the Pope’s representatives and is declared to be "Wanted: Dead or Alive."
May 27, 1584--John Calvin is heard to utter, "It is enough that to Christ I live and die." As the sun sets, he rests with Christ.
