"IF I SHOULD DIE BEFORE I WAKE" --

What I Will Wish I Had Done

Text: "Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee..." (Luke 12:20a).

Children used to skip rope to a rhyme that went,

"Doctor, doctor, will I die?"’

"Yes, my child, and so shall I"

If I should die before I wake –

What I Will Wish I Had Done for Jesus Christ

First, I will wish I had been a serious Christian. I will wish I had lived a life of prayer. I will wish I had prepared for this moment, but I will die as I have lived. If I have lived carnally and carelessly, unless God intervenes in my life with His almighty power, I will die carnally and carelessly.

I will wish I had done more to build the Kingdom of God. I will wish I had been more zealous in spreading abroad the gospel, and I will wish I had sacrificially given more for the cause of God and truth.

Second, I will wish I had borne a consistent testimony. I will wish I had come before the Lord in worship more regularly, and more devoutly.

If I should die before I wake - "

What I Will Wish I Had Done for Other People

I will wish I had borne a faithful testimony before others. I will wish I had maintained my prayers for others, I will wish I had given my time, my effort, and my offerings for the good of others. Could I have better helped the members of my family? What about my neighbors? My friends? My business associates?

What I Will Wish 1 Had Done for Myself

I will wish I had been willing to learn by the counsel and experience of others instead of wasting their experience to learn wisdom by my own painful experience.

LETTERS

Davao City, Philippines:

"...For more than five years ago, God opened my eyes to the Doctrines of Sovereign Grace, and taught them in the theological seminary which I served as Director at that time, and had preached them to different churches and missions, and to my fellow missionaries and pastors. Very few of them had accepted the truth, but the vast majority of my fellows missionaries and pastors, for fear of losing their financial support—like what happened to me from the churches in the United States of America—rejected the truth and treated me as their enemy.

"In spite of my hardship in supporting my wife and five children in meeting both ends, we glorify the lord in this kind of tribulation. We are happy because God the Father elected us unconditionally before the foundation of the world, God the Son died for all the elect, God the Holy spirit regenerated us, and finally, He will glorify us to be conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ...."—Teodoro C. Badilles, Pastor.

Editor’s Note: Arminian Baptist churches in America will have to answer to God for this; so will everyone who professes to believe in Christ but who have so little regard for truth that they are unwilling to suffer for it.

Malawi, Central Africa:

"...I and my brethren wish to receive visitors to straighten us.

We now ask, if possible, try to ...come here and teach us the Word of God. Although we are pastors, we need others to teach US.

"We are also passing through a difficult financial season. If God will, please help us so that we can buy Chichewe Bibles.

"We are going to have a big meeting in August of this year. May God bless you for your urgent reply." -Pastor Horace R. Chideya

Editor’s Note: The need, the invitation, and the desire are there, but since we live from day to day, we do not have the means to go.

Avoca, Wisconsin

"Thank you so much for the books you sent. I’m enjoying them very much. The book you have written, God Hath Spoken, is excellent. I am going through it slowly. Many things you have put in there I’ve never known. The large print is ideal for older folks. It is one of the best I’ve ever read on the inspiration and inerrancy of God’s Word. Even the title should cause folks to think. Thank you for your kindness. God bless this work..." -Mrs. Marion Sailing.

Harrah, Oklahoma

"...Thanks for the books. We gave one of the songbooks and The Marriage Ring to the couple for the anniversary gift. The world probably would not count those appropriate for a golden anniversary, but these people will really appreciate them, and regardless of how long we’ve been married, The Marriage Ring is profitable to read. Thanks again!" –Aubrey and Anita Kimball.

PONDERABLES

    1. "Those people do not have faith in Christ who continue to look to great men to solve the ills of society."
    2. "If God was pleased with heart, lung, kidney and liver transplant operations, why do patients never get well, but must continue to take anti-rejection medicine the rest of their lives?"
    3. "Every person who once protested against a state lottery, who has accepted state lottery money for education, such as in the form of a scholarship, has been silenced: no longer can he or she speak out against gambling by a lottery."
    4. "The theory of "the noble savage" is based upon the false assumption that man is basically good."
    5. Why the push for the acceptance of vegetarianism? "The (meat eating) Plains Indians easily conquered the nut and root-eating tribes" (Bill Rice, in a 1970’s edition of The Branding Iron).

QUOTE: "I’ve not come to be over you, or your household, but I’ve come to tell you the truth --so long as I have breath in my body, I’m going to tell you the truth, even if it kills me, because I love you, and I’m concerned about your soul" -Pastor Rex Wright at his installation as Pastor of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Grovetown, Georgia (July 26, 1992).

IF YOU ARE AN AT&T

CUSTOMER, YOU ARE

HELPING TO PROMOTE

HOMOSEXUALITY IN

AMERICA.

It is true. The nation’s largest Telecommunications Company is committed to using their resources to convince America that homosexuality is a normal, alternative lifestyle. AT&T has a history of promoting homosexuality.

* AT&T was one of the main financial sponsors of the Gay Games IV, and Cultural Festival in New York, part of a huge calendar of events in June (94) specifically designed reshape America’s moral values.

* AT&T is directly soliciting homosexual customers through a mail campaign which comes In a lavender envelope, with a letter from AT&T’s homosexual employees.

* AT&T company spokesman told an advertising trade publication, "Anyone with that kind of attitude (revulsion toward the homosexual life-style) has to lose it;"

* AT&T has sponsored the homosexual musical "Falsettos."

* AT&T indoctrinates its employees to accept homosexuality using the video "On Being Gay" by homosexual activist Brian McNaught.

* AT&T was among companies named as progressive at the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (1993) because of its support for homosexual causes.

Readers of The Angelus have an alternative. They can stop doing business with those who hate God and choose a long distance carrier that is Christian: it is called Lifeline.

What’s more, when you sign with Lifeline Long Distance Service, you can direct that 10% of your long distance calls be given to The Angelus. It will cost you nothing, and in most cases your long distance costs will decrease. FOR BUSINESS: the commercial day rate is .1390 and is billed in 6-second increments. FOR RESIDENTIAL: discounts generally range between 4-15 percent. Are you willing to try it for 90 days?

Ask Yourself This Question:

If I could give 10% of my long distance telephone billing to

The Angelus

at no additional cost to me, and in most cases save

myself a little money

would I try it for 90 days?

You can have 10% of your long distance billing given to The Angelus and it doesn’t cost you any more, in most cases you actually pay less for your long distance.
