This Month in History

"SHUT UP, OLD MAN!"

What a vulgar bit of arrogance to so lightly speak to the voice of experience!

The Scriptures place great emphasis on the learning that may be reaped from the elderly because of their years of experience. He acts like a fool who despises the instruction of experience.

And what is the study of history if it is not the study of experience? Yet, multitudes scorn this mine of learning as though the bliss of ignorance was worthy of merit.

The study of history reflects the age in which we live and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit gives us a proper understanding of current trends.

AN EXPOSITION

Text: II Thessalonians 1:7-10

From these verses, it is clear that--

I. There is coming a day when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from Heaven.

II. On that day, He will not come alone, but will come with His mighty angels.

III. At the time of His coming, He will be seen coming in flaming fire.

IV. The purpose for His coming will be to take vengeance on them that know Him not.

V. These who know Him not are the same as they who do not obey the Gospel of our Lord.

VI. These who know Him not as is evidenced in their disobeying the Gospel of our Lord will be punished with everlasting destruction.

A. This destruction will be a banishment from the presence of the Lord.

B. This destruction will be banishment from the glory of His power.

VII. This day, which will be a terror to many, will be a source of comfort to His own.

A. This day will comfort His people because Christ will come to be glorified in His saints.

B. This day will comfort His people for Christ will be admired in all them that believe in that day.
